GUITAR

The Instrument

The guitar is a fun instrument to play however, it is by no means easy to learn. Besides having to learn all the notes on the entire finger-board, there are many different picking and fingering techniques and worst of all, the hand contortions necessary to produce chords. However, as with all instruments, with practice, it becomes easier.

We recommend learning on an accoustic (folk or classical) guitar over electric. With the accoustic guitar, you control the sound by how you play it and no speakers or amps are necessary. Also the sound is purer and fuller than that of an electric guitar. However, the electric guitar sound has its place in many genres of music. Guitar strings should be changed every few months or more frequently as needed. Keep several pics in your case as they are easy to lose.

Study Material

The Alfred Guitar Series is used at Amaria Music. The Girl's Guitar Method is a special series created by Daisy Rock and published by Alfred Publishing. I have found this to be the best series for young girls learning to play the guitar as it comes from their perspective. Click here to purchase Alfred and other guitar books.
